While I understand the anger, the sarcasm and the insulting treatment of the Watcxhtower, it is a good idea to restrain it for the sake of appealing to others who are still in. I believe that it is our common goal to undermine the WT control on our loved ones, and that effort is most effective when we are better than they are. Let us follow the example of people like Raymond Franz, Carl Olof Jonsson and James Penton. Let's leave the vitriol to the Watchtower.

The Cat out of the Bag: the story of the release of the NEW WORLD TRANSLATION
by Terry inwhen jehovah's witnesses began distributing door to door the new world translation beginning in the early 1950's a firestorm of protest broke out in mainstream churches.
the alarm cry was "they've changed the bible to fit their own crooked teachings!".
you can imagine the discord as church members tried to figure out how jehovah's witnesses could prove by reading from the nwt the king james version was full of omissions and errors and outright fraud concerning, for instance, the trinity doctrine or the name of god!!.

Good piece. You give too much credit to JW's for starting the war. The war was started in the 16th century by Spinoza and Hobbes, and intensified by German scholars in the 19th century. However, your points definitely resonates with me. Most of the people in here would still believe in the Bible as inerrant and infallible if it hadn't been for the WT who raised their awareness about it. I think we owe a great deal of atheism to the WT. In terms of theology, there's nowhere to go after discovering theTTATT, except for religious apathy and skepticism about the Bible.

Racist comment from Jehovahs Witness!
by Seraphim23 ini work as a concierge for a building in central london.
recently we had a new window cleaner firm take over, as the old boy who had done the job for years, retired!.
i noticed that the new guy (with assistant) was a jw because i asked for his business card and noticed the blood card nestled tightly in the wallet card holder compartment, as he reached for a card.

About 15 years ago the body of elders inmy wife's cong. wanted to remove one of the elders. Since this elder had given me a study, the BOE thought to give me and my family a lavish dinner so I could spill some beans about the persecuted elder. Long story short. All the males (Latinos mostly from central America), about three elders and two or three ministerial servants and me were ouside talking about everything. The subject all of a sudden turned to how this particular group of people was so lazy. Everybody seemed to agree and chimed in with their own story. My wife and I left the social meeting and within days I sent a letter to the WT referencing this conversation and few other things (long story). The WT wrote back and essentially told me to "mind my own business" in a more gentle vocabulary. However, it was nice to know that few months later, they had in the same BOE a person of this group that was so "lazy". This was a Hispanic congregation in the U.S.. The first language of the new elder was not even Spanish. In fact, it's extremely unusual to see Americans of this group in Hispanic congregations.

Does the New "Donations" arrangement comply with the Bible?
by objectivetruth init is a christian's responsibility to give of his time & resources.. this command is found all through the scriptures.. matthew 5:42 "give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.".
deuteronomy 15:7 "if anyone is poor among your fellow israelites in any of the towns of the land the lord your god is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward them.".
proverbs 21:26 "all day long he craves for more, but the righteous give without sparing".

I think you can use the Bible to justify almost anything, so I think your question is pointless. The new arrangement is not demanding unilaterally a fixed amount so it becomes voluntary. It certainly smells to high heaven, but what matters is what is written regardless of the psychological manipulation behinfd the text

I just advised the main elder in my wife's congregation to take the course and I reminded that for several months I have offered a sizable amount of money (enough for a kingdom hall in latinamerican coutries) to him or the WT itself if they can produce the research regarding VAT 4956 suppporting WT chronology. His answer so far 'No thanks, I don't want to look into things that I know are wrong" (several months ago)
and today his answer, verbatim:
"Ok, thanks. But regarding your money offer, I appreciate the gesture to finance more Kingdom Halls, but I personally do not participate in wagers, especially regarding spiritual matters. I hope you understand."
I replied saying that it's not a wager, confirming that he or the WT are not under any obligation to pay anything under any circumstance. All they have to do is produce support for their chronology using VAT 4956 and I build them two kingdom halls in Africa or one in Latinamerica. That's all. I even advised him to get the WT lawyers working on this. I haven't heard from him yet. We will see.
